The only seeming correlation with anything (besides said Windows updates) is that it generally occurs after the PC goes into 'sleep' mode and, upon restart, either won't restart and will require a forced shut-down or simply has already 'crashed' (denoted by the 'Safe Mode' restart options that appear). Now, since the first 'death' of the drivers (after a mandatory Windows update), I've had it happen multiple times each time requiring a complete sweep of the graphics drivers (Drover Sweeper, CC Cleaner, manual deletion of all applicable junk et al.), with varying degrees of success - 100% working working with some errors during installation Intel drivers also requiring re-installation.Įssentially, I get a few days or weeks - it varies and is not consistent beyond a Windows update (which tends to kill the driver/s) - and then the drivers just inexplicably 'vanish'.

Since I installed the later drivers I detailed hereinbefore, those too died similarly to the way the Dell mandated ones did - CCC disappears, drivers undetectable, AMD program still seemingly installed (under programs), GPU inactive, System Restore useless (obviously does not apply to drivers). but if I eventually do, I'll report back. I have not yet attempted a more recent driver update (despite the Raptr prompts to do so) nor have I updated my Intel drivers (re-installed - yes, nay updated). So, it seems one can indeed get around the "vendor-only" drivers restriction on gaming laptops, but it might be one of those ' try, try and try again. But today, after a Windows update seemingly killed my GPU drivers (black screen lock-up > forced restart > drivers gone > GPU undetectable), and repeated failed attempts at re-installed the Dell-provided primordial drivers, I ended up (kind of by accident) installing the later (14.16) drivers over the top of the failed Dell (9.3.0.0) drivers (still present - I did not driver-sweep the failed install). I tried the method back when I first posted here, but to no avail. Just thought I'd pop back to say that this method -  - ended up working for me. Let me know if this works for you as well. I installed the AMD graphics update and restarted my laptop. I'm not sure but you can just download the latest update if you want. I downloaded the AMD Catalyst 15.1.1 Beta driver update to be specific. I then restarted my machine and headed to the AMD website where I downloaded the notebook/mobile drivers. zip and it installed without any problem. Kept giving me a message saying my system wasn't compatible. I then downloaded the latest graphics card drivers from the intel website. I started by uninstalling my intel HD 4000 graphics from device manager and restarted my laptop. Its worth noting that the only way the AMD graphics update will work is if your intel HD graphics is up to date. Before proceeding create a restore point in case this doesn't work.ĭO NOT use the intel update utility or the Dell update software, just do everything manually.
